Today my baby becomes a teenager. Nawal is thirteen and I can't quite believe it! To celebrate Nawal today, I thought I'd share 13 fun facts about my girl!
On her first birthday, we sat Nawal on the table next to her cake whilst everyone sang Happy Birthday to her. She grinned from ear to ear and watched everyone singing to her, waiting until the final hip hip hooray before casually leaning over and grabbing a yellow duck lolly from the top of her cake.
Nawal's nickname is Nawali Bali
Nawal's name is Nawal Rita Coco Gazal O'Neil - Rita after Saint Rita of Cascia, the patron saint of the impossible - and Coco after Bella and Baci's Mum. Coco was hit by a car and killed and just three weeks later I found out I was pregnant. I decided if I had a girl, I'd name my daughter after her as Coco was so special to me.
Loves hamburgers and meat pies. We are always on a mission to find the best hamburgers when travelling and Nawal has her favourites from around the world that are a must eat every time we’re near them.
Nawal loves her teddies and has always played with their ears – so much so that she actually has calluses on her thumbs from doing just that!
On her 6th birthday, Nawal’s classmates in London made her a bright pink paper crown. That weekend, we travelled to Paris and the crown came along with us every step of the way. Nawal would not take it off her head and we have photos of Nawal with the crown on the Eurostar on the way to Paris, all around the city and even on the return journey home.
Snow White was Nawal’s favourite Disney princess when she was little. She had all the costumes and dolls and even had a Snow White cake one birthday.
Speaking of cake, Nawal doesn’t actually like cake! Each year on her birthday we have to come up with a non-cake birthday treat for her. She’s had donuts, rice krispie treats, chocolate covered marshmallows – the list goes on and on!
Nawal once cut Neve’s hair super short because she wanted a Prince to play with. Snow White has to have a Prince Charming, right? (Eeek!)
Nawal hates grass and getting her feet dirty. No jumping in muddy puddles for her!
Nawal loves fencing and is currently the Under 13 Girls Epeé Champion in the Sydney Olympic Cup.
Nawal's favourite song is Shut Up and Dance by Walk the Moon. Many many dance parties have been had at our house to that song over the last few years!
Nawal's favourite colour is purple - and it has been since she was a little girl. Most girls go for pink - but Nawal has always opted for purple!
