What's in a Name? The Reason There Are So Many N's in the Gazal Family
Nicole, Nawal, Neve.... I am often asked why I chose "N" names for each of my girls. Whilst it seems to be a common trend today, N's have been special in the Gazal family for years and years.
The First "N"
It all started with my grandfather, Nasri Gazal, born in Beirut. He was the one who started the "N" trend in the Gazal family.
His first son, my father Nabil, was born and my grandfather decided he would give him an "N" name for no particular reason. Soon came my Uncle Nazih, followed by my Aunty Nina and finally my Uncle Nahi.
The Next Generation
As Nasri's children grew, they each adopted the "N" tradition in different ways.
My father, Nabil, continued the tradition with his family - first with me, Nicole, followed by my sister Nora, brother Nabil Jnr and finally my youngest brother Nicholas. My poor Mum, Maud, even gets called Naud from time to time as people get confused!
My Uncle Nazih married Noha - although the "N" name wasn't the reason he married her but merely a coincidence!
My Aunty Nina had two daughters, Nada and Nour and finally my uncle Nahi had Nasri and Nathan.
The Third Generation
Today the "N" trend continues with my girls, Nawal and Neve, and the latest addition to the Gazal family - my sister Nora's daughter Naya.
