The First Birthday Dress: A Family Tradition

It’s no secret that I love traditions (after all, that’s why there are so many N’s in the Gazal family!) but this tradition may just be my favourite one.

Before my eldest, Nawal, turned one, I found the perfect birthday party dress from British designer, Patricia Wiggen. A red and white gingham print with a collar and bow details, it was the perfect party dress for a little girl celebrating her first birthday with a Teddy Bear’s picnic theme.

When Neve turned one, we decided she too would wear the birthday dress just like her sister - but little did I know the birthday dress would be cherished for years afterwards too.

In 2018, my sister’s daughter Naya was next in line to wear the birthday dress, celebrating her first birthday in the same dress her cousins wore 13 years earlier.

In 2019, it was little sister Novella’s turn for the birthday dress - but the tradition didn’t stop there.

When my Goddaughter, Georgia, celebrated her first birthday in 2020, she was next in line for the birthday dress tradition.

Finally, little Navy continued the tradition with her cousins, proudly wearing the first birthday dress on her big day! I wonder who might be next 😉
