Now you know What to Wear to a Cocktail Event and What to Wear to a Smart Casual Wedding, I want to dive a little deeper and explore a lesser known dress code: Jacket and Tie.

Whilst it's pretty self-explanatory for the gents, what should a woman wear to a jacket and tie event?

Decoding the Dress Code - What to Wear to a Jacket and Tie Wedding or Event

Jacket and Tie

A Jacket and Tie dress code is generally applied to a semi-formal wedding. It’s more formal than a cocktail dress code and tends to be similar to a lounge suit dress code. Unlike a cocktail wedding which infers a tie is optional for men, a Jacket and Tie dress code requires men to wear a suit jacket with a tie.

For women, you’ll want to wear a cocktail dress that is shorter than floor-length, a pantsuit or a semi-formal outfit.

For men, the dress code is pretty obvious; a jacket and tie is required – but a suit or smart blazer and chinos is also appropriate.

If you want to wear a dress:

Stick to a cocktail dress that is shorter than floor-length, but not too short that it's inappropriate. Of course, fabrics and styles will differ depending on the timing of the event. As a general rule, a morning or afternoon event is a little less formal than an evening event. Light colours and fabrics are fine for the daytime - but you'll want to go for darker colours and more formal fabrics for the evening.

If you want to wear pants:

Opt for a more-formal pantsuit or tailored pants with a nice blouse - adding a blazer if you prefer.
