10 Autumn Staples You Won't Regret Buying

10 Autumn Staples You Won't Regret Buying

Don't suffer from purchase guilt this Autumn/Fall/Winter. I've got 10 AW18 Wardrobe Staples You Won't Regret Buying - and that you'll wear again and again throughout the season. A perfect capsule wardrobe guide for women featuring must have clothing…

It's officially Autumn in Australia - and whilst we've had a few days that felt like summer, but with the dreary rainy weather today - it's clear that the cold weather is coming, so it's time to put away the shorts and start bringing out the layers.

In the spirit of Wardrobe Wednesday, I thought i'd share 10 Autumn Wardrobe Staples you won't regret buying - as well as my favourite pieces for this season!

1. A Great Handbag

Whilst I often tell Adam otherwise, you don’t need a dozen different handbags – in fact, one classic piece that goes with everything in your wardrobe will do! This is an item that you can keep and use for years – so it’s a worthy investment if you are planning on taking care of it.

Go for a classic style in a neutral colour (think black, beige or grey tones) in a medium size so that you can take it from boardroom to bar and beyond.

2. A Nice Pair of Boots

Autumn/Winter is boot season – and if you buy the right boots, you’ll find them wearing them all season long. If you only want one pair, go for black - but if you're happy to buy a few, go for a pair of long black and/or brown/tan boots and a pair of black ankle boots. Leather will last longer (as long as you look after them) but suede boots are always a nice change.

3. A Chic Blazer

Blazers aren’t just for work. A classic blazer works with everything from jeans to dresses and is the perfect way to smarten up any outfit.

A nice blazer is an Autumn/Winter must – especially in those early days where the mornings are cool but the temperature turns up by lunch. A black blazer is my number one must – but I also like to have a lighter cream or beige colour, a pop of colour (go for a colour you wear often, like pink or red to match a pattern on your skirt or dress or your favourite heels) and a navy blazer so I have one to match every look.

4. A Great Pair of Pumps

You will never regret investing in a beautiful pair of classic black pumps. If you can’t stop at one pair – buy a pair of nude pumps too. Both or classic staple pieces you’ll wear time and time again.

Whilst toe shapes, heel styles, fabrics and embellishment trends are always changing, opt for a pump with a rounded pointy toe and medium height heel to keep it timeless.

5. Basic Tees

A building block for any outfit, everyone needs a favourite basic tee in their wardrobe. I love H&M’s basic jersey tees so much that I have multiples in every colour.

6. Jeans to Suit Your Shape and Style

Everyone has different jean preferences but I have four staple favourites. See what 4 Jeans Every Woman Needs in Her Wardrobe. For winter, you'll want at least a dark wash and a black jean - with an optional light wash style for casual weekend wear.

7. A Great Leather Jacket

One of my personal wardrobe staples. I think you can never go wrong with a great leather jacket – and if you invest in a great quality jacket, you’ll wear it for years and years.

8. A Chic Trench Coat

Trench Coats are especially in this season – but they’re a timeless piece you’ll wear again and again. Trench coats can be worn with so many different outfits and are both functional and fashionable as they’ll keep you warm and dry whilst looking seriously chic.

9. A Cardigan or Two

Cardigans are so versatile and can be worn over just about anything. I always like to have at least three cardigans in my wardrobe: one black, one light colour (think white or cream) and at least one colour.

These don't have to be your Nanna's cardigans - above are some of my favourite non-traditional styles.

10. A Pair of Staple Flats

Whilst I love my heels – a great pair of flats is an Autumn/Winter must – especially on rainy days where your boots just don’t match your outfit. A great pair of flats will not only be comfortable – but a great wardrobe staple too as they go with just about any outfit.
